Went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 6, 1933 in South Mills, NC to the late James R. Sr. and Margaret C. (Williams) Barbee. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Carol Emily (Lantz) Barbee in 2017. He is survived by his children, Patti (Dan) Jackson, Sue Grabinski, Tom (Lori) Barbee and Ken (Michelle Pollio) Barbee. Devoted grandfather of Tristan (Leeann) Clingo, Sarah and Claire Grabinski, Emily (Andy Toms) Barbee, Harper Pollio-Barbee, Taylor, Chris (Leslie), Eric (Kisha) and Nathan (Ellen) Jackson. Great-grandfather of Riley, Matthew, Kate, Sophia, Tyler, Joseph and Jacob Jackson. Jim was a devoted, faithful and caring member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church and held almost every position within the church community. He was especially known as the church historian, and belonged to the National Association of Church Historians. A structural design engineer, Jim worked for 30 years at North American Aviation/Rockwell International. Jim enjoyed distance running, that took him from North Carolina State University to the Boston Marathon. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 1PM at the Broad Street United Methodist Church, 501 E. Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215, with Rev. Dr. Deborah Stevens and Rev. Pete Elliott officiating. Family will receive friends at the Broad Street United Methodist Church on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 4-7PM and Saturday, March 17, 2018 from Noon-1PM prior to the Celebration of Life Service. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Broad Street United Methodist Church, 501 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43215.
