James Wright Obituary
Wright, James
1924 - 2017
James Roscoe Wright died peacefully under hospice care on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Sunrise Senior Living in Bexley, OH at the age of 93. Roscoe is survived by his children, Barbara Shannon Baker (Dave Baker) of Bexley, OH and Dr. James R. Wright Jr. (Dr. Lynn McIntyre) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and his grandchildren, Emily Rose Wright of Denver, CO, David James Baker of Bexley, OH, and Jason Wright (Angie Wright) of Upper Arlington, OH. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Norma Geraldine "Gerry" Wright of Bexley, OH and his brother, John Henry Wright of Goochland, VA. Roscoe was born on March 30, 1924 in Roanoke, VA to James Cicero and Saddie Eestelle Wright. He served in the US Army as a private in Europe during World War II. He graduated from the University of Richmond with a B.A. in business. His decision about where to attend graduate school was influenced by his father inheriting an apartment building in Columbus, OH (Bryden Road Apartments) which he operated while pursuing his Master's degree from The Ohio State University. He continued and expanded this business for over 25 years and then, because of his love of the stock market, he became a broker late in life. He would describe his interests as a "gold bug" and he was a precious metals expert. While at OSU, he met his future wife Gerry, who was a law student at University of Alabama, and, while they were courting, he would commute back and forth from Columbus to Tuscaloosa on weekends. His love of cars, road trips and travel would continue throughout his life. Gerry and Roscoe were married in 1950, and were inseparable for life. His children remember him as a kind and supportive father who was a good husband, provider for his family and role model. He was an active, dedicated, and generous member of the Grace Brethren Church of Columbus. A funeral is scheduled for 3 pm on Saturday, December 23 at Woodyard East Chapel, 2300 E. Livingston Ave., with the visitation to begin at 2 pm at the same location. Pastor Jim Custer will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Roscoe's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Waddell Memorial Presbyterian Church at 7133 Rapidan Rd, Rapidan, VA 22733. Interment in Rapidan, next to Gerry, will take place later. Condolences can be sent to www.orwoodyard.com. The family would like to thank caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living for their care and dedication.
