Arlene passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on February 10, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio with family by her side. Her warm and giving spirit will be missed by family and friends. She was born on September 6, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Albert and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Wiley. Arlene graduated from Upper Southampton-Warminster High School and retired from Farmers Home Administration. She was a long time resident of Newark, Ohio. A devoted mother and grandmother, Arlene enjoyed traveling, baking and crocheting. She led Newman's Needlers, taught crochet classes at Michaels, and had great joy in sharing her creations with others. Arlene was a long-time volunteer at Licking Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Grandparent's Group at New Hope Lutheran Church of Newark. She was always ready to lend a helping hand no matter the task. Arlene is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Wiley, step-mother Blanche Wiley, brothers Albert Wiley, Jr., Wayne Wiley and Clyde Richard Wiley, sisters Eleanor Kerns and Dorothy Grygiel, brothers-in-law Norman Kerns, Joseph Grygiel, and Paul Winslow, sisters-in-law Ida Ross Wiley, Beverly Wiley, and Mary Wiley. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald M. Newman, Jr.; children, Jim (Sherry), Jon (Jennifer), Jodi and Joel; grandchildren, Jared (Lorrin), Samantha (Justin), Gabe and Abby; sister Betsy Winslow; brothers, John Wiley and Paul (Barbara) Wiley; sister-in-law, Barbara Wiley; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the or the . A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at New Hope Lutheran Church, 309 West Broadway, Granville, OH 43023.
