Jeanne Hartigan Obituary
Hartigan, Jeanne
1935 - 2018
Jeanne Elaine (Bengston) Hartigan, 82, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully from this world on April 9, 2018. She was surrounded bedside by her loving family at Parkside Village, Westerville, Ohio. Those who met her knew that she was "practically perfect in every way." Jeanne was born October 30, 1935 in Downers Grove, Illinois, the second of two daughters of the late Arvid and Myra (Monsen) Bengston. She graduated from Downers Grove Community High School in 1953. She met the love of her life, James Robert Hartigan, in 1951. Jeanne loved to tell the story of how they met while he was actually on a date with someone else. Jim's fraternity brother, Bob Hill, asked him to double date where Bob's date was Jeanne's sister, Margo. When they arrived, Margo wasn't ready, a point Jeanne always emphasized. As they waited for Margo, Jim and Jeanne met for the first time. The rest is history. Bob and Jim went from fraternity brothers to brothers-in-law as Bob married Margo and then Jim and Jeanne married on December 17, 1954.
Jeanne took great pride in raising their two children, Jim Jr. and Julie Ann. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and trying out new recipes. She loved seafood and watching her favorite movie "Gone with the Wind." Jeanne worked at JoAnn Fabric and later in the accounting department at Executone. She was an active member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church since 1973, first attending services when the early church was meeting at Walden Elementary School, which she could see from her bedroom window. Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law Margo and Bob Hill. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Jim; her son, James (Leslie) Hartigan, Jr.; daughter, Julie Ann (Rich) Scherzinger; daughter-in-law, Karen Hartigan; grandchildren, Stephanie (Alex) Thompson, James Hartigan, III, Anna Scherzinger, and Isaiah Scherzinger. Surviving nieces are Kathleen Hill, Barbara (David) DeYoung, Roberta (Brian) Hubbard, and Sandra Hill. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 1-3 pm with Services immediately thereafter at Schoedinger Funeral Home North Chapel, 5554 Karl Road, Columbus, OH 43229.
