Obituary Condolences

Shaw Dr. Jessie Grace Shaw BA, MA, PhD passed away on March 18, 2017 at Riverside Hospital at the age of 93. Born December 18, 1923 in Logan, Ohio. Predeceased by husband Robert Joseph Shaw, daughter Roberta "Bobbie" (Richard) McCoy and parents Lydia Blanche and William Cleveland Smith. Survived by sons, David (Janet) Shaw, Gary Shaw, and Jeffrey Shaw; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Her greatest pride was her family. She was a loving, dedicated mother who served her children's schools as PTA President at both Eastmoor High School and Fairmoor Elementary. After her children were grown, she decided to enroll for studies at The Ohio State University as a freshman. Against all odds, she went on to receive three degrees at that institution including a PhD in Psychology at age 70. Later, she was honored by induction into the Logan High School Academic Hall of Fame. An avid reader and amateur poet, she maintained an active curiosity for life and learning until her death. She travelled extensively throughout the country to visit family and to accompany her husband Robert in his search for inspiration and subject matter for his landscape oil paintings. During her studies at Ohio State, She was a proud member of the staff at the Nisonger Center, testing and working with a number of children with developmental disabilities and their families focused on Play Therapy. She was truly a brilliant, kind and loving person. The Family will be holding a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to the in memory of her daughter Bobbie.
