Jim "Junior" Loper, 94, of Athens, formerly of Grove City, passed away July 8, 2017. Born November 18, 1922 in Jobs Hollow, Hocking County to the late James and Mary Anne Hopkins Loper, he lived most of his childhood in Chauncey. He raised his family in Grove City where he lived until moving to Athens. He lived at The Laurels until his death. He was a World War II Army Veteran and retired from Wasserstrom's in Columbus where he worked as a welder. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Denise Loper of Bishopville; a sister, Ellen "Tiny" (Warren) Simpson of Lancaster; and a brother, Bill Loper of Longmont, CO. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Eloise Tucker Loper, his two sons James R. and John Loper, a brother Bob Loper, a sister Helen Gussman, several nieces and nephews and his dogs who he loved dearly, Buddy, Mandy, Lady, Rusty, and Bobby. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Laurels and the O'Bleness E.R. Doctor and nurses for their compassion and caring. A celebration of life will be held at The Laurels, 70 Columbus Circle, Athens, Ohio 45701 on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. In memory of Jim, contributions can be made to Pound Rescue of Athens, PO Box 1209, Athens, Ohio 45701.
