Joan Jeffers Obituary
Jeffers, Joan
1935 - 2017
Joan Delores Jeffers, age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2017 after an extended battle with Alzheimer's. She was born February 16, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Floyd B. and Zeta E. Christman. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband and best friend, George Edward Jeffers and his brother Denver Jeffers. Joan was a wife and mother, and friend to many. She met her beloved George roller skating and it was love at first sight. She was proud to say she robbed the cradle, having been almost a year older than him for their 59 years together. They loved antiquing and would spend countless weekends searching for treasures to resell at garage sales and local community fairs. Her passion and energy to find the perfect gifts enabled her to locate the most hard-to-find Legos and Beanie Babies, to the delight of her grandsons, whom she cared for on weekdays while mom and dad were at work. She and Grandpa would let themselves in before the sun came up, start a pot of coffee and quietly wake up the house so the kids could sleep. While she never thought of herself as a worker, she became a close member of several families, caring for nephews, grandkids, and twins Cam and Walker through the years. Joan loved the holidays and had wall-to-wall decorations for every season, including the Bunny Outfit she wore for Easter. This was the time of year we all enjoyed her outstanding baking skills. Fudge, pies and endless cookies were always the centerpiece of her holiday tables. She had a singular vision of some simple, but immutable truths: Spaghetti sauce had celery, Christmas trees were Frasier Firs, Wedding anniversaries were celebrated at the Golden Lamb, the best apple cider came from Laurelville, and vacations were taken in the fall in Gatlinburg, Tennessee where she loved hiking in the Smokey Mountains. Joan is survived by her sons, Matthew Jeffers; George (Hillary) Jeffers, grandchildren, Stuart and Wesley Jeffers, and George's twin sisters Delcie Hankison and Elcie Kuhn; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Special thanks to Ohio Health Hospice and the staff of the Convalarium of Dublin where Joan resided for the last three years. You treated her and us like family and we are truly grateful for the warmth and care you gave us all. The family will welcome friends on Friday, Dec.15 from 3 – 5 P.M. followed by a short service of memory at the HOPE & HEART FUNERAL HOME by SCHOEDINGER, 3030 W. Broad St. Columbus, OH 43204.
