Joseph F. McDonough Sr. passed away in his sleep at his home in Venice Fla. on January 4, 2018 with his loving wife Rene by his side. He was born on June 13, 1922 and grew up in "Flytown" on Neil Ave. attending St. Thomas Aquinas HS. Upon graduating in 1940 he attended The University of Notre Dame until WWll called him and he enlisted in the Marine Corp serving in the South Pacific, flying 57 missions on a B-52 bomber. Married to Betty J.(Somers) McDonough for 25 years(Devorced). He owned and operated Hearn Tool and Machine Company. Marrying Rene(Timmerman) McDonough in 1979, retiring in 1985 and together subsequently moving to Venice Fla. where they would spend their winters. Joe loved the Bay of Islands in Birch Island, Ontario Canada, which was introduced to him by his grandfather Fred Hearn, and he and Rene would spend their summers at their cottage having family and friends there to enjoy it with them. He is preceded in death by his mother, Florence Sanders and sister and brother in law Robert and Mary Grace Boyd. He is survived by his wife Rene McDonough, son and daughter in law Joe and Cathy McDonough, step daughters Denise Owensby (Palm Springs Ca.),Dion McCauley(husband John)(Cols.O), Dana Goeller(husband Charles)(Sarasota, Fla). Six grand children, seven great grand children and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Venice Florida, Memorial will be a later date.
