Judith Bussler Obituary
Bussler, Judith
1951 - 2017
Judie Bussler, 65, died Sunday morning, October 8, 2017 at peace in the Kobacker House Hospice in Columbus, Ohio where her family and friends stayed close over the few weeks of her illness. She was born November 22, 1951 to David F. and Ethel Collingsworth Bussler of Wheelersburg. Just after Judie graduated from Wheelersburg High School, Speaker Vern Riffe, her home town hero and mentor, recruited her to work at the Ohio House of Representatives. In the early days, she left Columbus twice to pursue opportunities in Texas and Florida but always returned earning her the nickname, "Jumpin' Judie." In 1985, the Speaker assigned her to newly elected State Representative, Jane Campbell from Cleveland. Judie served as executive assistant to Campbell throughout her 21 years in elected life as State Representative, County Commissioner, and Mayor of Cleveland. As Campbell expressed it, "Judie was indeed a member of our family. She held my girls, Jessie and Katie, from their earliest days and was the one who knew what mattered the most to me." As Hunter Morrison said, "She helped us to be good parents while managing complex schedules. Judie was irreverent and good humored and never let a relationship falter over politics. She never lost her temper and had an incredible work ethic. Having her by my side was a gift." When Mayor Campbell left office, Judie became the executive assistant to the Director of Public Utilities in Cleveland until her retirement in 2015. Upon retirement, Judie returned to Columbus and lived happily with her cats Jinx and Jake, joining dear friends in cheering the Buckeyes and watching over her favorite OSU medical student, Jessica Campbell-Morrison. Judie is survived by three dearly loved brothers, Wayne Bussler (Jane) and his children, Sarah, Tony, Charlie and Heidi; Tom Bussler (Jane) and his children, Pete and Kimberly; David Bussler (Margie Dettwiller) and his children, David Patrick, who lived with his Aunt Judie in Cleveland for two years, and Laura. In addition to the Campbell-Morrison family, Judie also created a family of friends including: Mitzi Matheney, Bonnie Dondanville, Sheila Taylor, Mimi Johnson, Sallie Rickertt, and so many more. Arrangements for a memorial gathering are pending. Contributions can be made in her memory to: Kobacker House, 800 McConnell Dr., Columbus, OH 43214. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E. State Street, Columbus, OH 43215.
