Kay F. Briggs, age 79, of Upper Arlington, passed away on the morning of September 11, 2017. Kay was born outside of Maysville, Kentucky on December 23, 1937 to the late Brooks and Frances (Bollinger) Bramel. Kay was a 1955 graduate of North High School and remained very active with her alma mater as a mentor to other students. She went on to attend The Ohio State University. Kay helped found Block O. She met the love of her life and husband of 53 years, Joseph Briggs, who was her ski instructor on the slopes; where she excelled and was a ski instructor herself for over 40 years at Snow Trails. Kay was active in the Scioto Country Club where she was the Capital City Tennis Champ. When Kay was not on the tennis court or the ski slopes she was traveling the world with her beloved husband and best friend, Joe. She and Joe met many wonderful people on their adventures which include going to Europe, England, and Austria. Kay was a loyal member of Nationwide Insurance, serving as an executive secretary for many years. She also served as the Office Manager at Briggs Insurance and Real Estate Development. She was involved as a docent of the Columbus Zoo, member of COSI, President of the Women's Association and other organizations too many to list. Kay was a wonderful wife, mother and friend to those that survive, including husband, Joseph M. Briggs, Jr.; daughter, Lori Briggs; adopted son, Malcom (Emma) Yao and their children, Tony, Wesley and Terry; she will also be missed by longtime friend of 65 years, Sue VanVorrhis. Family will be receiving friends on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 2-5 p.m. at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio. where a memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made in Kay's memory to COSI or the Columbus Zoo.
