Keith DeVoe Jr., M.D., age 87, of Upper Arlington, died July 18, 2017. He practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for 36 years at Riverside Methodist Hospital where he was director of the residency-training program of Obstetrics and Gynecology for 22 years. He was preceded in death by parents, Dr. Keith DeVoe, Sr. and Lelia M. DeVoe. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Nitschke DeVoe; daughter, Lynn DeVoe Kuehn (Doug) of South Bend, Indiana, and their children Erin Kuehn Snow (Martin), Becky Kuehn Lampros (Jimmy), and Leeann Kuehn, and great grandchildren, Henry Lampros and Nora Snow; son Keith DeVoe III (Anne) of Upper Arlington and their children Maddie DeVoe and Andrew DeVoe; brother Stephen DeVoe, M.D. (Kathie); brother-in-law Charles Nitschke; and nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Bexley High School, 1948, and The Ohio State University College of Arts and Science, 1951, where he was president of his fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta. He graduated from the OSU College of Medicine, 1955, where he was a member of Phi Chi medical fraternity. He completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1959. He served as Lieutenant Commander United States Navy Medical Corp at Pensacola, Florida, 1959-1961. Dr. DeVoe was a Clinical Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, where he was the recipient of a Distinguished Teaching Award in 1972. In 1969, Dr. DeVoe established the Riverside Resident Research Fund, which subsequently became the RMH Medical Education Foundation. This Foundation funded the establishment in 2005 of the Center for Medical Education & Innovation, the only teaching facility of its kind in the world at that time. He received the Annual House Staff Award for Teaching Excellence from Riverside Methodist Hospital in 1976, Teacher of the Year Award Department of OB-GYN Riverside Methodist Hospital in 1989, and The Ohio State University College of Medicine Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. He served as president of the following organizations: the Riverside Methodist Hospital Medical Staff, the Academy of Medicine of Columbus and Franklin County, and the Columbus OB-GYN Society. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Florence Crittendon Home, a delegate to the Ohio State Medical Association, member of the Central Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He held a commercial pilot license and was an active pilot for 53 years. Member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Scioto Country Club. Visiting hours 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Friday, July 28 at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, OH. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Blvd on Saturday, July 29 at 1pm with Rev Wade Giffin officiating. Reception to follow at the church.
