Leland W. Nicol, age 91 of Plain City passed away Saturday afternoon November 18, 2017 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. He was born January 17, 1926 in Plain City. Leland was a WW II Navy veteran who was on his way to the Pacific Theater when the first Atom bomb was dropped. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and was a past Elder. He was also a Plain City Lions Club member. He retired from farming and then went to work at Yoder's True Value Hardware Store in Plain City. He loved to play cards and was an avid OSU fan passing away while the TV was on during Saturday's game. He was preceded in death by his parents: August & Edith (Gaulke) Nicol; wife: Barbara (Schmidt) Nicol – 2008; daughter: Debra A. Kleiber – 2010; daughter-in-law:Sara Nicol – 2017. He is survived by his children: William L. Nicol, Denise A. (Don) Commings; son-in-law; Robert M Kleiber; grandchildren: Jennifer Kleiber, Marie Nicol, Austin Kleiber, Connor Commings, Nicholas Commings. great-granddaughter: Laney Elizabeth Nicol; sisters: Harriet Koegler, Bernette Gill and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 4 – 7 PM Wednesday at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main Street, (St. Rt. 161W) Plain City. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, November 24, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7960 St. Rt. 38, Milford Center, with Rev. Paul Schlueter officiating and burial St. Paul Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Union County Honor Guard.
