Linda K. Page, 74, of Columbus, passed away on December 9, 2017 at Westminster Thurber. Born on October 4, 1943 in Wadsworth, Ohio, she was preceded in death by her parents Fredrick Page and Martha Vance. Linda's love for cats had no bounds. Maggie, Clinton and Perkey, among others, were her pride and joy. She was a compassionate, gracious, and caring person and had numerous friends and admirers. A woman of exceptional civic concern and commitment, she distinguished herself as a dedicated public servant, earning the respect and admiration of all of those with whom she has worked. The Ohio Senate on February 28, 1990 stated the following about Linda: "Always sincere and energetic in her approach to her work.", "Given willingly of her time, energy and abilities far beyond what was required or expected.", "Her integrity and expertise earned her the respect and admiration of all those with whom she has worked.", "Demonstrated exceptional administrative expertise.", "Record of service worthy of highest praise.", "A leader in progressive financial regulation.". Governor Celeste appointed Linda, the first woman appointed to this position, as Superintendent of the Ohio Division of Banks from 1983 - 1987. This office was responsible for chartering, examining, and supervising Ohio's state-chartered banks. As Superintendent, she was a leader in implementation of interstate banking legislation, placing Ohio in forefront of banking evolution; she modernized the supervisory process, and addressed issues facing State-chartered banks in Ohio during adverse economic and difficult times, helping to resolve Ohio's 1985 savings and loan crisis. Prior to being named Superintendent of Banks, Linda served as Vice President of BancOhio National Bank (National City Bank). She served twenty-one years in banking, was a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors' Consumer Advisory Council, and was appointed as Director of the Ohio Department of Commerce on December 31, 1987. On March 6, 1990, Ohio House of Representatives adopted a resolution which acknowledged in part Linda for outstanding service as Director of the Ohio Department of Commerce. Other professional involvements included Treasurer of the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, President of Star Bank Central Ohio, The Conference of State Bank Supervisors, Women Executives in State Government, and Financial Women International. She later went on to serve in Mayor Coleman's cabinet as Director of the Department of Public Service. A reception with refreshments will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5-7PM with time for remarks at 7PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna. Private inurnment will occur at a later date at Mifflin Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Cat Welfare Association and to CHA Animal Shelter.
