Louis Burns, 88, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away at home on July 10, 2018. Born on October 12, 1929 to D.L. and Helena Burns in Mansfield, Ohio, Louis attended Mansfield Senior High School and was a graduate of the class of 1947. Louis went on to attend and graduate from Denison University and enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation, serving 4 years during the Korean War as a Special Agent under the Office of Special Investigations. Returning to Mansfield in 1955, he entered the family business, Mansfield Typewriter and Office Supply Company as Secretary of the Company as well as President of Office Products, Inc. in Elyria, Ohio. After selling the business in 1975, he went on to work for the United States Small Business Administration for 22 years, retiring in 1998 as the Assistant District Director for Finance and Investment. In 1997 he received the National Bronze Medal for Outstanding Service. After retirement, Louis remained committed to serving the public, volunteering for hurricane, flooding and fire disaster relief in California, Texas, Minnesota and 9 weeks in Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina. Louis was active in his local communities. He was a treasurer of the Mansfield symphony, a senior Rotarian, Deacon at the First Congregational Church, President of Toastmasters, 32nd degree Mason, and on the US Boy Scout Committee, starting the first recognition dinner in Mansfield. In Dublin he served on the Muirfield grounds committee, was President of the Central Ohio Flyer's Association and President of SCORE, the Service Core of Retired Executives. Louis is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marilyn; son, Thomas Burns and family of Maineville, Ohio; daughter, Beth Allen and family of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and son, Michael Burns and family of Westerville, Ohio. He leaves a legacy of 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and loved being present at his grandchildren's school and athletic events and was proud of his three grandchildren's military service. Louis was a loving husband and father, generous friend and community advocate. He was a sailor, a pianist and pilot, keeping his private pilot's license current late in to life and enjoyed "punching holes in the sky". A celebration of life will be held at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME IN POWELL, Ohio, 450 West Olentangy Street on Sunday, July 15 from 2-4PM. Memorial services and innichment will be held in Mansfield, Ohio at a later date at the First Congregational Church.
