Louis "Lou" Everett Kitchen Sr., 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 3, 2017. Lou is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cathy (Rider) Kitchen; four children, Sarah (Scott) Flaten, Jolene (John) Hostal, Elizabeth (Brendan) Bradley, and Louis Jr. (Heidi) Kitchen, Rick Kitchen and Angie Hodges; siblings, Roger Kitchen, Juanita Hatfield, Loretta Stuart; grandchildren, Isabel, Audrey, Palmer, Carder, Vivian, Abigail, Brendan, Maddison, and Bronwyn. Preceded in death by his father Fred Kitchen, mother Effie Bringer Kitchen and brother Fred Kitchen. Lou was born on February 16, 1937 in Catlettsburg, KY where he attended Thomas Brown High School followed by two years of business school. Lou started his career with Hooker Chemical in Ironton, Ohio. He spent most of his career working as an expert in labor law with OAPSE/ASFME, Ohio Office of Collective Bargaining and retired from ODOT in 2007. Lou loved politics. Lou was instrumental in lobbying Martin Luther King Day to be recognized as a national holiday. He loved swimming and enjoyed working on antique cars. He loved the Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. Lou will be dearly missed by all who loved him. Calling hours to be held 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Chapel, 5600 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43213. Service to follow.
