Malcolm Ator, 85, of Columbus, passed away at Ohio Living Westminster Thurber Health Center after an extended illness. He was born in Lancaster, OH, the son of the late Orlo and Glenneria (Wilcox) Ator. Malcolm attended West High School in Columbus and graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for Bates & Rogers Construction, Red Roof Inns, and retired from National Engineering, where he was nicknamed "Grandpa Bridge." Malcolm began going to Glenwood United Methodist Church in the 3rd grade. He loved and supported and served the church as long as he was able. Malcolm volunteered his time and his voice to read the newspaper on the Radio for Voice Corps for over 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Carmen, and her children and grandchildren; his sons, David (Jo) of Frankfurt, Germany, Steven (Margie) of Hudson, OH, James (Susan) of Philadelphia, PA, and their children; brother-in-law, Robert Woods and family; and former wife, Beverly (Bordner) Ator. Besides his parents, Malcolm was preceded in death by his twin sister Mariam (Ator) Woods, and an infant brother Max. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 11:30 am-1 pm at Glenwood United Methodist Church, 2833 Valleyview Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43204, where funeral service will follow at 1 pm with Rev. Sharon Beatty officiating. Interment Union Cemetery. Thank you to all the kind and caring employees at Westminster Thurber who helped Malcolm during his time there.
