Mary Campbell Obituary
Campbell, Mary
1921 - 2017
Mary Ellen Campbell entered into eternal rest Wednesday, August 9, 2017, looking much younger than her 96 years. She was born on January 18, 1921 in Decatur, Illinois to Fred and Emma Shulke. Mary Ellen graduated from Decatur High School in 1939. It was there she met Tom Campbell. They enjoyed roller skating together, which unfortunately led to Mary Ellen having "bad knees" late in life. She and Tom married in 1943 and their marriage lasted nearly 69 years until Tom passed away in 2011. She was also predeceased by her mother, father, brother Carl Shulke and sister-in-law Wilma Shulke. After high school, Mary Ellen graduated from Brown's Business College with a degree in bookkeeping. She worked for Borg Warner's corporate office for a number of years before moving to Ohio in 1961. She resided in Kettering, Ohio for over 40 years where she raised her daughter and enjoyed working with her good friends in TWIG to raise money for Children's Hospital. Mary Ellen was a lifelong Lutheran and believer in Christ. Her life philosophy was "If you want to have a friend, you have to BE a friend". The many people who loved her can attest that she was a friend indeed. She was also a wonderful mother, grandmother and aunt who will be dearly missed by those who survive her: daughter Melanie (Jeff) Jurca, grandson John Thomas Jurca, niece Joey (Randy) Bentley, their daughter Sara (Cody) Gray and their girls Bentley, Kennedy & Hadley. A gathering with prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday August 12, 2017 at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd, Gahanna, Ohio 43230, with Pastor Steve Brown, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, officiating. A brief reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be dedicated in Mary Ellen's name to St. Luke Lutheran Church or Gahanna Special Olympics. To share memories and condolences, please visit www.schoedinger.com
