Mary Helen (Clinger) Hopkins Obituary
Hopkins Mary Helen (Clinger) Hopkins, of Upper Arlington, died June 4, 2017. She was 98 years old. Born August 7, 1918, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the daughter of Alma (Coverston) and Ralph Clinger. She graduated from North High School and The Ohio State University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Chimes and Mortar Board honor societies. She also was selected in 1938 to serve as a member of Ohio State's first female cheerleading squad. She was a member of First Community Church, Guild Groups 3 and 1, Couples Circle #23, and a past member of the Board of Women. She was a longtime member of Life Care Alliance Service Board and the North High Women's Alumnae Association. She was on the first sustaining Board of Central Community House and a member of the Pleasure Guild of Children's Hospital, a charter Member of Twig #36, the Junior Division of the Symphony Club, Beaux Arts, and Scioto Country Club. Preceded in death by husband Leonard L. Hopkins and brother Ralph H. Clinger, Jr. Survived by daughter, Susan (Frank) Basler of Bridgeport, CT; sons, Leonard L. Hopkins, Jr. (Katie) of Richmond, VA and Stephen Hopkins (Lou Ella Poteet) of Bexley, OH; grandchildren, Mark Basler (Norwalk, CT), Amanda Basler (Todd Davidson) of Petaluma, CA, Megan Hopkins of Bar Harbor, ME, Matthew Hopkins (Carrie) of Los Alamos, NM, and Benjamin Hopkins of Columbus, OH; great grandchildren, Cameran and Taylor Basler, Maia Davidson; sister-in-law, Carol Clinger; and nieces, Catherine Augustine and Candace Clinger. Friends may call at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road on Thursday, June 8 from 4:30-7 p.m. A Service of Memory will be held at First Community Church, Burkhart Chapel,1320 Cambridge Blvd. on Friday, June 9 at 2 p.m. Private inurnment will be scheduled at a later date at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Heart to Heart at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, Ohio 43212 or Life Care Alliance, 1699 W.
