Olivetta McCoy Yohn, age 88, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017. She was born on July 14, 1929 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia to the late John and Randolph (Jordan) McCoy. Born Olivetta Kathleen McCoy, Olivetta Yohn was known as Ollie. After early years in West Virginia, the family moved to Bucyrus, Ohio. Ollie was a professional singer. In Bucyrus, she studied piano and organ. She graduated from high school in 1947 and enrolled in Otterbein College where she sang in The A Capella Choir. At Otterbein she met David Yohn who was taken by her grace, talent and intellect. She and David married on June 11th, 1950. They were blessed with five children, Linda, Kathleen, Joseph, David and Kristine. Ollie was a loving mother, home-maker, great cook and entertainer for David's cancer research associates. She supported the family as a soloist, private music teacher, bank teller, and bookkeeper. In 1969 the family moved to Upper Arlington, Ohio and joined Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a soloist and choir member. She sang with and directed The Arlingtowne Singers and The Song Spinners. She adored her 6 grandchildren, Sean, Ian, Michael, Nicolette, Alyx and Jessica. The greatest aspect of Ollie's life was her love for family and friends. Olivetta McCoy Yohn – Ollie – leaves a legacy of love. In addition to her parents, Olivetta was preceded in death by daughter Kristine R. Yohn and sister-in-law Joanne Colberg. She will be greatly missed by her husband, David S. Yohn; children, Linda Yohn, Kathleen Yohn, Joseph Yohn and David Yohn; grandchildren, Sean Weaver, Ian Weaver, Michael Yohn, Nicolette Yohn, Alyx Kim-Yohn and Jessica Yohn; sister, Mary Menke Neff; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jan Yohn; brother-in-law, Paul Colberg; their extended families and life-long friends.
