Patrick Mushill Obituary
Mushill, Patrick
1963 - 2017
After a long battle with ocular melanoma, Patrick Angelo Mushill passed away at home, surrounded by family on Friday, October 6, 2017, in Pickerington, Ohio. He was 54 years old. Patrick was born on January 13, 1963 in Granite City, IL to his father Paul Mushill, who predeceased him, and his mother Mary Ann Mushill. The great outdoors was where he often found escape; he loved exploring ponds and lakes and bringing home various reptiles. The story of bringing home a bucket of snakes was a favorite. Patrick is survived by his wife, Kay (Campbell) Mushill; his son, Kyle Mushill; his daughter, Maddison Mushill; his mother, Mary Ann (Mushill) Branz; his brothers, Peter (Connie) and Paul (Beth) Mushill; his sisters, Karen (Rod) Hartzel, Kathy (Jim) Weber and Kim (Craig) Stephens; his four nephews, Andy Stephens, Jarrett Campbell, Conner Campbell and Carsen Campbell; his 10 nieces, Bari Baum, Kasey Carroll , Beth Bozicevic, Kelly Mushill, Reilly Mushill, Mallory Mushill, Lauren Pielert, Mary Weber, Adrienne Weber, and Sally Stephens; his great-nephew, JT Carroll; and his great-niece, Lucy Carroll. Patrick joined the Navy in 1983, following in his father's and uncle's footsteps in serving their country by way of the water. He served on the USS Woodrow Wilson and the USS Seahorse. He had many fond memories of his time in the Navy. They ranged from providing a special North Pole edition submarine tour of the Engineering spaces to Vice-President Al Gore and Congressman Bob Dornan to visiting various destination locations in the US, Scotland, England, Ireland and France. Life under the water can present unique personal challenges, but Patrick's well known practical jokes and sense of humor brought smiles to all his shipmates. While stationed in Charleston, SC, Patrick met and married the love of his life, Kay (Campbell) Mushill. Patrick made the most of his time at home with Kyle and Maddi, giving them the best of him – his love of sports, his patience, his fun-loving attitude and his love of cooking. He coached multiple seasons of baseball, hockey, soccer, basketball and softball. Patrick came from humble beginnings in Illinois and in his own ruff-and-tumble way grew up to have a genuine impact by traveling the world, defending his country, and teaching compassion, hard work, dedication, and other life lessons through sports to the future generation. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 12-2 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. In addition, a memorial will be held in Granite City, IL, later. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Wounded Warrior Project. To leave the family a condolence message, please visit www.NewcomerColumbus.com.
