Raymond Clouse Obituary
Clouse, Raymond
1930 - 2017
Raymond Clouse, a longtime resident of Westerville and north Columbus, born in Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away at age 87, October 5, 2017 in time to tee off with Woody Hayes, Arnold Palmer and Art Rooney. Ray had many passions in his life and lived it to the fullest. Ray was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, working in the Encryption division stationed in Japan. After an honorable discharge, he earned a B.S. in Business Administration at Grove City College in Pennsylvania. Realizing that his life was incomplete, he married Mary Raylene Atwell in 1957. To support his family and to earn green fees, he began working at Nationwide Insurance in Butler and transferred to Columbus in 1966, for a total of 35 years as a business manager. He brought his love of Pittsburgh sports to Columbus while growing his love for OSU sports. He never had to look for those willing to bet against his Steelers, and was happy to collect on most of them. To anyone who knew him, Ray's biggest passion was golf, and he single handedly kept area golf courses in business. He often said that one of the greatest feelings was "to collect on a $2 golf bet". Although Ray's passions included golf, Ohio State sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, he also was a strong supporter of his community. He served as President of the Devonshire Civic Association, volunteered at Villa Angela, Meals on Wheels, volunteer at St Elizabeth, coached his sons' football and baseball teams and was an OSU Red Coat. He was an active member of the Elks, VFW and American Legion often organizing and leading community service projects. These social outlets also allowed Ray to share his victories on the golf course with his many friends. Preceded in death by his parents Leo and Esther and siblings Jane, Mary, Leo and Buzz (Aylesworth). Survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Raylene; daughters, Carole (Joe Leone), Terry, Lynda (Jeff Waugh), Laurie (Ryan Felchlin); and son, Bill (Heidi); and 7 grandchildren, Sarah, Michael Katie, Alex, Hayley, Madi and Carly. The family will receive friends from 7-9pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High Street. A Memorial Mass will be held 11am Wednesday, October 11 at St. Elizabeth Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd. Inurnment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
