UNGER Richard Unger. A memorial service for Richard Unger of Newark, Ohio, will be held at The Midland Theatre on the Court House Square in Newark, Ohio on Saturday, November 10 at 10:30 a.m. Rich Unger, born November 4, 1932, in Dayton, Ohio, died Sunday, November 4, 2007, in Newark, Ohio. Unger, a long-time resident of Newark, and previously of Granville, is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ellie Unger; and his sons, Rick Unger of Tucson, AZ, Todd Unger of Montclair, NJ, and Brian Unger of Los Angeles, CA; his daughters-in-law, Karin Unger and Celia Virginia Harquail; his grandchildren, India and Evangeline; nephew, Jeff Ungerecht; and mother-in-law, Florence Oprea. Rich, retired in 1998, was Superintendent of Northridge Schools and Licking County Joint Vocational School District, and more recently Executive Director of Ohio Association of School Business Officials; a principal and teacher in Ohio public schools for 31 years; a writer and actor. He was well-known to many as a performer in central Ohio theatres, having played more than 50 principal roles on many stages including Granville, Licking County, Weathervane Playhouse, Gallery Players in Columbus, Theatre Lancaster, and OSU-N. He was also a published author of short stories, poems, and a writer-illustrator of children's books. As a community leader, Rich was president of Newark Kiwanis and president of Weathervane Board of Directors. Rich held a Specialist in Education and Masters of Education degrees from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio as well as Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina.
