Dr.  Robert Frederick Rauch Obituary
Rauch Dr. Robert Frederick Rauch, aged 95, of Upper Arlington died peacefully on Sunday morning, June 4, 2017. He is preceded in death by wife Eleanor Mulhall Rauch, parents Fred and Norah (McNeil) Rauch, sister Betty Caroline Patton and brother-in-law John Patton. He is survived by children, Dr. Robert F. Rauch II of Tucson, AZ, Dr. Steven (Suzanne) Rauch of Lamoine, ME, Nancy (Samuel) Duran of Cincinnati, OH and Diana Rauch of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Erika and Andrew Rauch, Jason (Millie), Julia (Mehool), and Lindsay (Jared) Rauch, David and Joseph (Kaitlin) Duran, Katherine, Jessica, Joshua, and Megan Ewy. He has seven great grandchildren. Dr. Rauch was born in Lancaster, Ohio on December 23, 1921. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1939. He received his B.A. degree at Ohio State University where he was involved in many extracurricular activities-Business Manager of Strollers Dramatic Society, Office of the Student Senate, Ohio Staters Inc., Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and the Rhomophos and Bucket & Dipper Honor Societies. He attended medical school at Ohio State University where he was a member of Phi Chi medical fraternity and later transferred to Harvard Medical School where he received his MD degree in 1945. After his internship at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis, he spent 2 years in the Army Medical Corp. where he was assigned to the Veterans Administration. During this time he received training in Internal Medicine at Tulane University and in neuropsychiatry at Case Western Reserve University. In 1948 he was discharged from the Army with the rank of Captain. Dr. Rauch then spent 4 years in surgical training under the world renown surgeon Owen H. Wangensteen at the University of Minnesota Hospitals for whom he was the Chief Resident in 1952. He returned to Columbus and had a long and successful career in general surgery before retiring in 1991. After retirement from his surgical practice, he served as surgical consultant at Nationwide Ins. Co., Medicare Division for several years. Dr. Rauch was a life long member of First Community Church and Couples Circle 13. Over many years he was a member of the Scioto Country Club, Columbus Rotary, Pro Bus organization, Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, Fellow American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Columbus Academy of Medicine, Columbus Surgical Society, Pan American Medical Association, the Parents Council of Northwestern University, and a founding member of the American Trauma Society. He was affiliated in practice with Riverside Methodist Hospital, Mt. Carmel Hospital, Grant Hospital and had an active teaching role for many years as a clinical assistant professor at Ohio State University School of Medicine. He was a member of the Nature Conservancy, the Ohio and American Forestry Associations, and had a long time interest in conservation on his tree farm in Athens County, Ohio. Family will receive friends at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road Columbus, OH 43221 on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. Services are private.
