Robert Giammar Obituary
Giammar, Robert
1944 - 2017
Robert Daniel Giammar "Bob", age 73, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on August 18 at his home. He was born June 3, 1944, to Dan and Nicola (Pasquale) Giammar in Cleveland, Ohio. Bob graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology. After completing an MS at Ohio State, he stayed in Columbus where he worked at Battelle Memorial Institute for more than 40 years, performing combustion and process engineering research and development. On September 16, 1967, he married the love of his life, Betty Jane Skoch. Bob loved nature, spiritually, scientifically, and viscerally. At age 72, he and Betty still slept in a tent on their annual trip to the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. While he relished epically long cross-country car trips, he and Betty were also often seen riding their bicycles around Columbus. Bob could fix almost anything and was at his happiest with a tool in his hand. He was an avid golfer, photographer, and woodworker. His family's homes are graced by his handcrafted furniture. Bob golfed every day that the weather permitted. He could often be found reading his dog-eared Bible. His parents and his sister, Gayle Began, preceded Bob in death. He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, David (Tishana Lange) of Columbus, Ohio; son, Daniel (Rachel Slaughter) of St. Louis, Missouri; and daughter, Lauren (Jeremy Bateman) of Duluth, Minnesota. He delighted in his grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Giammar; Nathaniel, George, and Jonah Bateman; and Oliver and Eli Giammar. Bob's immediate family, extended family, and his many friends will sorely miss him. Family will receive friends Thursday, August 24 from 5-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH. A memorial service will be held at Meadow Park Church of God (2425 Bethel Road) on Friday August 25 at 11 a.m with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Children of Promise (http://www.echildrenofpromise.org).To share memories or condolences, please visit www.schoedinger.com.
