Robert L. Kuhns Obituary
Kuhns Robert L. Kuhns died May 4, 2017. He was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio where he attended Patterson School, Fairview High School, and the Ohio State University. He served in the Army, stationed at Ft. Sill. After the Army he worked as a graphic designer before joining and becoming president of National Heat Treating in Columbus. He was active in Rotary, Camp Fire Girls, Ohio Railway Museum, Antique Automobile Club of America, Rolls Royce Owners Club, Bradford Ohio Rail Museum, and Ohio Metallurgical Society. He was a member of Scioto Country Club, Leatherlips Yacht Club, Columbus Art Museum, Dayton Art Institute, and First Community Church. He resided in Upper Arlington and spent the last years of his life at First Community Village. He devoted time to his wife's farm in New Holland, Ohio. One of his projects was building a house overlooking Paint Creek. Many parties, Thanksgivings, and sunsets were enjoyed in this house. He and his wife also spent time and had a home in Fountain Hills Arizona. Throughout his life he was an automobile and railroad fan. He had extensive knowledge of inter urban traction in Ohio. He also sketched and painted automobiles, trolley cars, steamships, and whimsical airships but never presented them professionally. He created ever expanding model rail layouts in the basement and garden, and around every Christmas tree. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Susan Linch Kuhns, his parents D. Leonard and L. Mildred Kuhns, cousins Edward M. Kuhns and William Kuhns, great grandmother Maggie Locke. He is survived by his twin children, Lucy Kuhns of Neuchatel Switzerland and J. Peter Kuhns of La Jolla, California. Also surviving are Marge Kuhns, Barb Kuhns. and Missy Kuhns all of the Dayton, Ohio area. The many years of dedication by Anne Holiday are treasured. The skilled and loving care that was the daily work of Renee MacCartney and Patricia Gartman in Bob's last years turned into something greater than words can describe. And there is much gratitude for the unsung heroes: Jim and Donna, Dave, Jane, Rick and Bill, Wendy, Gina, Charlene, Rhonda, Jill, Gerald and so many others. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43223. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at National Church Residences First Community Village, Burkhart Chapel,1800 Riverside Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
