Sandra Jean Williams Bennett Obituary
Bennett Sandra Jean Williams Bennett, passed away on March 26, 2017 after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was born May 27, 1942 in Norwalk, OH. She graduated from Westerville High School, class of 1960, and remained well connected with many classmates. Sandra graduated from Otterbein College in 1964, and received her Ph.D. in Communications from The Ohio State University in 1971. For a short time, she taught English and Speech at Reynoldsburg High School, making a lasting impact on many of her students. The majority of her career was as the Communications Director for the Ohio Nurses Association. Nurses long held a special place in her heart, and she took her role advocating for their collective benefit seriously. In retirement, Sandra enjoyed traveling, with the goal of visiting all 50 states. Unfortunately, she had not yet visited Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont. She was also active in First Congregational Church, UCC, holding many lay leadership roles in her decades long membership. Sandra is preceded in death by her mother Vesta Williams, and sister Virginia Schwartz. Sandra is survived by her father, Vernon Williams; her trusted companion, Richard T. Bennett; sister Barbara Sanders; brothers, James (Wendy) and Gary (Cheryl) Williams; son, Richard D. (Anne) Bennett; and grandchildren, Emily and Nathan; along with beloved nephew and nieces. Calling hours will be Friday, March 31, 4-7 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 1051 E Johnstown Rd., Gahanna. Sandra's memory will be celebrated Saturday, April 1, 2:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus. A private graveside service will follow on Monday, April 3. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on Sandra's behalf to the organization or the Good Samaritan Fund of First Congregational Church.
