Sara Marble Merritt

Obituary Condolences

Merritt Sara Marble Merritt died on May 4, 2017. She was born in Marion Ohio to Marguerite and William Alan Marble II. Sara wanted to be a school teacher from the time she was a little girl and she achieved that goal with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Ohio State. This led to a career teaching second and third graders in the Columbus System at Dana Avenue and Northtowne Schools. Sara is survived by beloved husband Roger; precious daughter, Bethany Jenkins; her husband, David; and grandchildren, Gabriel and Alexis. Also survived by Roger's parents, James and Helen Merritt; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Ganz and her family Robert, Nikki and Jackie; nephews, Paul and Amy Marble and Karl and Jennifer Marble, Charlie and Danny. Sara has had a great group of friends for many years in the ladies she taught with; Marge Devers, Nancy Halvorsen, Judy Skinn, Linda Strong, Joan Gauvin, Matty Dorstewitz, and Cheryl Martin. They call themselves the "Ya-Ya's", and have traveled, partied, and played Euchre together for over 40 years. This loving group sat with her in her period of illness. Additional friends, Diana and Sam Coulter; and many others in Vera's Weight Watcher class and the ladies at tennis. Sara thanks the doctors, nurses and staff at Columbus Oncology and Ohio Health Hospice including Nurse Betsy Benedetto. Calling hours will be from 2-5 p.m. Monday May 8, at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington Ohio, 43085. Sara appreciated the help her students received over the years from Charity Newsies, and so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to them online or by mail to 4300 Indianola, Columbus 43214. And maybe every year, on January 22, you can raise a glass and remember Sara. www.rutherfordfuneralhome.com
