Obituary Condolences

Fairchild Shirley Ann Fairchild (Edgington), age 89, of Columbus, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Worthington Christian Nursing Home. She was born in Columbus Ohio on April 30, 1928 at the home of her grandmother (Sadie Dell Hover). Shirley is preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years Richard L. Fairchild, mother Lillian Phillips (Hover), step-father Paul Phillips, father Ray Richard "Dick" Edgington, sister Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Edgington, her loving granddaughter Nicole Fairchild, daughter-in-law Lillian Fairchild, step granddaughter Debbie Burnap, step great grandsons TJ Burnap, and step brother Tom Phillips. She retired from North American Rockwell after 27 years. Shirley was a member of the Crestview Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, was a deaconess, and Elder, served on the Board of Trustees, was in the Women's Association, Couples Club, Prime Timers, and the Mary Martha Circle. Shirley and Dick were longtime active members at Crestview Presbyterian Church. Shirley had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years at Crestview. She was a graduate of North High, Class of '46, and maintained close friendships with classmates throughout her life, member and secretary of the North High Women's and Polar Bear Alumni Association. She was a former member and Trustee of the Clintonville Women's Club, where she served as secretary, and also a member of the South Mifflin PTA and Booster Club; she loved bowling, her Buckeyes and playing cards with friends, family and residents of the Forum. Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother and loyal friend. Everyone enjoyed visiting with her and were rewarded with her exceptional homemade meals. She gave generously of herself in service to God, family, community and friends. She is survived her sons, Richard "Rick" Lyman (Melody) Fairchild, Paul David Fairchild, Robert "Bobby" Sherman Fairchild, and John William (Dorothy) Fairchild; stepbrother, Rolla Wagner; special cousins, Karis Say-Cavecche, Janet Billenstien, Carol Hensel; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call Friday, June 16, 2017 from 2-4 and from 6-8 p.m. at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
