Theodore Willis "Ted" Conaway Obituary
Conaway Theodore "Ted" Willis Conaway, of Columbus, Ohio, died on March 13, 2017 at 91 years of age. Son of the late Robert and Susan Conaway, he was born on February 25, 1926 in Dennison, Ohio. Armed with an artistic temperament and scientific mind, Ted attended The Ohio State University, where he studied art and mathematics and developed his life-long passion for the Buckeyes. He joined Ironworkers Local Union #172 in 1953 and for the next 34 years helped erect buildings and bridges in the Columbus area. Ted's long journey on this earth was full of love and laughter. Ted said that the best thing he ever did was marry Charlotte, the love of his life, on July 8, 1955. Together they often traveled to New York City to meet their artist friends, although Ted's favorite place was home with his family in Worthington, Ohio. An avid reader, his interests ranged from Homer and Shakespeare to nuclear fusion and flywheel technology, and he enjoyed lively debates about politics, art, and science, especially if they took place over steak dinner and a good martini. Ted is survived by Charlotte his wife of 61 years; children, Brenda Conaway (Steve Mahler), Jason Conaway (Pam Ellis), Tim Warner (Betsy); Ted's grandchildren, Ben, Matt, and Ellen; great-grandchildren, Ivy, Teddy, and Rosie; sisters, Dorothea and Gerry; and his many nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bob and Gene, and sister Mary. The family will hold a celebration of Ted's life on April 29 at the Griswold Center, Worthington, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Ted to the American Glaucoma Society. Services are entrusted to SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Worthington OH 43085.
