Thomas William Caw, 88, of Pataskala, passed away after a brief illness on February 10, 2018 at Kobacker House. Tom was born November 21, 1929 in Zanesville, OH to the late William Hooper Caw and Hazel Lavern (Smith) Caw. He was a 1948 graduate of Zanesville High School, where he played golf his junior and senior years, and a 1950 graduate from Mergenthaler Linotype School, Brooklyn, NY. He served in the United States Marine Corps 1951-1953. He was a charter member of the Reynoldsburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he was an elder and served on the church board. He was the longtime owner, publisher, and editor of The Pataskala Standard, working there from 1950, when he started as a linotype operator, until selling the business in 1996 and retiring. He was a member of many service organizations, served on various boards and committees in Pataskala and throughout Licking County, and volunteered for a variety of causes throughout his life. Tom is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Dexter) Jane Caw Woods, Ada, OH; and son, Thomas S. Caw, Madison, WI; grandchildren, Melina and Dexter Woods III, and Thomas Holden Caw; sister, Phyllis Charmaine (Robert) Bainum, Fairfax, VA; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 65 years, Margaret Jane (Derry) Caw. Friends may call February 19, 2018 at the Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Pataskala, from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held on February 20, 2018 at Kimes Chapel, Wesley Ridge Retirement Community, 2225 Taylor Park Drive, Reynoldsburg, OH, at 4 pm, visitation at 3 pm, with Reverend Maxine Smith-Pierce officiating, and Pastor Anthony Southard participating. Private interment will be held later at Pataskala Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Reynoldsburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, 8544 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, OH, 43068.
