Thomas E. LaRochelle, a longtime journalist and association manager, died March 17, 2018 in Columbus at the age of 83. He was a native of Flint, Michigan. A journalism graduate of the University of Detroit, he worked for several newspapers in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. Tom served for several years as news assignment editor of WBNS-TV in Columbus. He covered politics and state government, including the Legislatures of Ohio and Indiana. Newspapers he worked for included the Defiance (OH) Crescent-News; Mansfield (OH) News-Journal; Indianapolis Times; Akron Beacon Journal; Battle Creek (MI) Enquirer News; Cleveland Press; Columbus Citizen-Journal; Cincinnati Post & Times-Star. After his long experience as a news reporter and editor, he moved to association management. He was a Certified Association Executive member of the American Society of Association Executives; a Realtor Association Certified Executive of the National Association of Realtors; an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America. LaRochelle was an administrative vice president of the Ohio Association of Realtors and chief executive officer of the Cleveland Area Board of Realtors and Stark County Association of Realtors. He also was a former executive vice president of the Chagrin Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was a retired member of the Public Realtors Society of America. He served during two terms of the Ohio House of Representatives in 1975-78 as executive assistant to the House Republican leader. LaRochelle was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps and was a U.S. Air Force Reserve information officer with rank of captain. He was a member of the American Legion. He was an adult Boy Scout leader for 10 years in Ohio and Michigan. Member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Westerville. Tom is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Janet (2015), son David (2001), and brother Ted (2016). He is survived by sons, Alan (Jackie) and Jon (Diane Malas) of Columbus; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim LaRochelle of Evanston, IL. Friends may call Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018.
