Thomas Siebert Crane Obituary
Crane Thomas Siebert Crane, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Born in Columbus in 1922, Tom graduated from North High School in 1940. Interrupting his education at The Ohio State University, he served in WWII and was deployed in England and France from 1942-46. He then returned to complete his art degree at OSU. After graduating, he spent a short while in New York City working under noted artist Walt Kuhn. On his return to Columbus, in 1951, he met and married his beloved wife, Barbara Jonas. They settled in Worthington and had four sons. Tom enjoyed a long career as a professional illustrator and commercial artist. He was longtime head of the Chart and Graph service at OSU, and taught drawing there in the School of Architecture. He and Barbara enjoyed 65 years of marriage. This is what he wrote about Barbara's passing when she preceded him in death in September 2016: "If there is music I will listen for you. And in the Spring when the trees bring out their new leaves I will watch them, for you. When I see anything telling of love say, the flowers, or the little children, we will look on, Enchanted, you and I, Together." Tom was beloved father, father-in-law, and grandfather to Sam, Laurie, and Walker, Adam and Katia, Ben, Jane, Austen, Sander, and Galen, Seth, Liza, Aidan, and Adam Taylor. Tom was dear friend to many. He brought grace, integrity, and wisdom to everything he undertook, and humor permeated his life. He loved generously and will be missed.
