V. Ben Martin Jr., 88, passed away unexpectedly while visiting his sister Phyllis in Cleveland on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. Ben was born June 7, 1929 in Springfield, Ohio. After high school graduation Ben enrolled at The Ohio State University, but his education was interrupted by his service to the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. Ben completed his undergraduate degree in business at OSU in 1956 and began his career with the Anchor Hocking Corporation as a sales trainee. He retired in 1989 as Vice President of Anchor's International Division. He spent over 10 years living in Brussels; traveling all around the world making both sales and friends. Ben was fluent in French and German. He was an avid traveler, art collector, lifetime Ohio State Fan, member of the Presidents Club and generous contributor to the OSU Marching Band and The Ohio State University Foundation. Ben was preceded in death by his father Virgil B Martin Sr. mother Dorothy (nee Campbell), sister Nancy Hoecker and his brother-in-law Robert Bumm and dear friend Rita Rolo. He is survived by his loving sister, Phyllis J. Bumm; nieces, Cyndee Shirk (Tim), Carolyn Maloney (Richard); nephews, Robert M.Bumm, G. Michael (Delynn) Bumm, Gregory Hoecker (Mimi) and Daniel Hoecker (Vincetta); as well as his oldest friend, William "Bill" Rolo; and his many other lifetime friends including those at the Pink Cricket in Lancaster. Ben was proud to be a Glassman. Funeral Service Tuesday, August 15, at 7 p.m. in the CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of North Olmsted, 29150 Lorain Rd. at Sterns Rd., where friends may call Tuesday one hour prior to service. There will be an Open House to celebrate Ben's wide influence in Lancaster on Friday, October 13 at the offices of the Fairfield Foundation, 162 East Main Street at 4 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be sent or delivered to the Fairfield County Foundation for the V Ben Martin Scholarship Fund.
