William Harry "Bill" Galvin, 91, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018. Born May 30, 1926, in Columbus, Ohio, Bill joined the Navy in June 1944 and was
assigned to the Seabees in New Guinea. He was with the invasion forces in the Philippines in October, 1944 and was discharged on August 17, 1946. Bill reenlisted in the Army in September, 1948 and was sent to Okinawa in February, 1949, assigned to SCARWAF (SPECIAL CATEGORY ARMY WITH AIR FORCE) at Kadena Air Force Base. He was discharged in June, 1952. Bill then worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1984. Bill was a member of American legion Post 139, and Seabee Veterans of America. He was preceded in death by his father John Dallas Galvin, October 21, 1956, mother Lena May (Jinks) Galvin, August 29, 1988, and brothers Robert J. Galvin, April 17, 2000, Donald J. Galvin, July 25, 1986, and Jack A. Galvin, August 22, 2004, and his wife Dorothy, in April of 2005. Bill is survived by his sister, Lois J. Compton of Groveport, Ohio, and Ray Papp of Columbus, Ohio, along with several nieces and nephews. Burial will be at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Garden of 4 Apostles along side his wife. Funeral services will be administered at grave side by Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 60S So. Macdill Ave., 33609, 813-876-2421. Chaplain Joseph Roberts will have comments on Bill's life and lead us in prayer. In lieu of flowers, please donate to or to Bill's, Metropolitan Ministries, 2002 North Florida Ave., Tampa, Florida, 33602-2204 who do a lot for the homeless.
