Nancy, Derek, Nia, & Nisa,
Just learned of Dave's passing. There is nothing I can add that is different from the many soothing and heart-felt words that were printed here. Very few people consistantly have a smile and a good nature that always is noticed by others.....Your husband & your father was one of those select few....Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

To the Brinkley family, We couldn't believe when we heard the new that David had passed away ...We remember his wide smile, his crazy jokes and pranks... but most of all his love for Life and the game of basketball...We remember him at EHS and his love for his school and community. God's everlasting arms will sustain you all.

Nancy,
I was shocked when I picked up the paper and saw the passing of David. I remember you both when you allowed me the opportunity to come into your home and give you an Art presentation. During that time I felt like I had known you both all my life. Your husband was a wonderful man and from looking at the 174 plus entries speaks volume of his character. Nancy, trust, lean and depend on God for your healing during these difficult times.
Love you,

Nancy and family: I was shocked to read of the loss of your beloved husband. He was a wonderful man! I remember when I first met your husband. The two of you gave me an opportunity I will never forget and that was inviting me into your home for a private Art presentation. When I entered your home, I felt the love and warmth of both of you. Your husband had a very warm, caring and a God given spirit!! Nancy, I know your heart is heavy right now, but God is able to keep you during this season of your life! Take time and be good to you "Lean not unto your own understanding, but in all your ways, acknowledge God and he will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3: May God bless you and your family during these difficult days that lies ahead.

To the Brinkley family, I couldn't believe when I heard the news of David's passing...I remember his smile, his jokes and his love for the game of basketball...I remember when he told me the story of him taking ballet classes so that he could be lighter on his feet, I started laughing and was waiting for the punch line...that never came. He was the first one that told me that a lot of basketball players took ballet classes to help them in the game...later in life I found that to be true and I thought about David when I heard that, it took me back to that moment. David was such an awesome wonder..and he will truly be miss by all of us. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal...love leaves a memory no one can steal...you rest now my beloved friend.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dave you will be truly missed by many, many people. Dave and myself grew up together and everytime I saw Dave it was nothing but fun and laugther. We had many laughs together. Dave would always call me Mr. Meo, a name given to me by his sister Bev and brother Steve. I think he had fun calling me that. Dave was a few years older than myself but I always looked up to Dave as being much older and as an role model. Much love for you Dave.

Dave you will be missed. remember meeting you at East in 1972. You told this small kid that to get your shot off you have to shoot it the same everytime and it won't get blocked afte HE blocked it. Couldn't believe that someone who had that much BB talent would take an interest in me. Years later I saw him at a BB game between Concord and my school WV State. Straight from the layup line he gave a "that's my Homeboy" shout and pointed in the stands at me. To me just a giant of a man for the way he dealt with me as a youngster. We are only 3 years apart and I hope that shows the respect I have for him. I'll miss you Brink, but I won't forget you.
Rest easy Dave...you shot it the same everytime. Milton Hamlet EHS class of 1974

Coach B. I can't believe you have gone and we will never hear your voice again. You made us laugh and fed us sweettarts and neccos candy while trying to talk me and Cham into getting a technical file, and wearing our matching coaches shirts, always saying we had the best looking coaching staff in the city league. It was that kind of spirit and joy you left for everyone who knew you to remember you by. Thanks for continuing to offer D'Mya encouraging words when she went away to college and touching the lives of other young men and women along their journeys as well. Thanks for buying Girl Scout cookies from Madison. :)

When I recieved the news that David had passed away,my heart felt like I had been punched right in the center. I sat down and began to think of how long I knew him. As the memeries began to flood my mind one of the first ones was remembering how he and my brother Ricky gave each other nicknames. He call Ricky, dirty and that name stuck and Ricky called him pigpen, The last time I saw David I called him that and we laughed so hard. To The Brinkley family Greg, Bev Steve and Stacy. Know that your brother was a Great Man. Going back to Good old Eastgate Days I knew then that he was a special person and that God was going to use him to touch alot of people. May God keep you in his arms through all of this. And to Nancy,my heart goes out ot you and the children. I only met you once, but seeing you and David together I could see just how proud he was of his family.
