MEYRICK Gareth Meyrick, aged 49, died suddenly on May 15, 2012 in San Francisco. He is survived by his parents, Glyn and Anne Meyrick, formerly of Upper Arlington; his sister, Myfanwi of NYC; and his brother, Huw of Cleveland. Gareth attended Upper Arlington High School, and Ohio State University, where he earned a degree in Mathematics. He battled with epilepsy for over 30 years overcoming the many prejudices and obstacles that the disease presented. Gareth spent many years as a software engineer in San Francisco, the city that he loved. A private service will be held in San Francisco with a memorial gathering to be held in Columbus at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio, 17 S. High Street, Columbus, Ohio. Arrangements are being handled by the Ashley & McMullen Funeral Home, 4300 Geary Blvd., San Francisco, CA.

Gareth was a bright, witty, and talented man, whether writing code for technology that was ahead of its time or making a beef wellington for a dinner party at his North Beach apartment. I would give him a ride to the Berkeley BART station after work. Part of me thinks he was being polite by accepting a ride in a compact Japanese convertible.

Oh my dear friend, I'm sorry that my life was so difficult I could not pick up the phone to call. I had nothing positive to say, and didn't know what to say. Kirkstone Pass would have been HUGE if 911 did not happen the day after the big handshake deal with the Military. When I was at my lowest, you offered to take me and my kids into your home so we would be away from the hardships we were experiencing. I sincerely thank you. We survived UCSF together, and our friendship endured for the next 16 years. I have been trying to phone you, now I will just look up and call your name. Always your friend -- T

I hired Gareth to work at two different companies where I was engineering manager. We had a special arrangement where he could work from home anytime he needed to. Over the years we became good friends. I moved from the Bay Area in 2006, but Gareth never failed to send me an email on my birthday, which is May 16th. I didn't receive the email this year, and suspected the worst.

Gareth was smart, kind, thoughtful--and one of the bravest people I have ever known.

My condolences to his family.

Dear Anne, Glyn, Myfanwi & Huw, please accept our deepest condolences. We were all very surprised to hear the
news. Although I was much
younger than Gareth, I enjoyed every encounter with him, he never treated me like a kid. His humor, wit and incredible intellect always left me with a smile on my face every time. Thank you Meyricks for many precious memories. Rest in peace Gareth.
Sincerely, the Mahers, Joel, Giovana and Jeffrey
