Thomas Jay McNutt, age 84, of Hilliard, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017. Member of Hilliard United Methodist Church and US Army Veteran. Tom graduated with his bachelor and master degrees in agricultural education in 1955 and 1962 from The Ohio State University. In 1963, after teaching Vocational Agriculture at Belle Center and Dublin High School for 7 years, he moved to Ohio State University faculty, first as a 4-H Agent then promoted to Agriculture Agent and County Chairman. He retired from extension on December 31, 1988 and holds the title of Professor Emeritus. From 1989 to 2004, Tom served as executive coordinator of the Ohio Council of Cooperatives, also serving as Executive Director of the Ohio Agricultural Council from 1990 to 2003. He was also the NBC4 TV News Garden "Guru" Expert from 1989 to 2013, hosting a live TV show every Saturday at 8:00 A.M. and taped another garden segment for Sunday mornings. He is a member of the Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame as well as recipient of many local, state and national awards. Preceded in death by parents Archie and Mildred (Smith) McNutt, brothers William, Gerald, Nelson and Richard. Survived by loving wife of 60 years Joan (Johnston) McNutt, children Kathy McNutt, Tamara (Bradley) McNutt-Bundy and Timothy McNutt, grandchildren Megan, Ryan and Evan Bundy, Katelyn (Scott) Breckeimer, brothers Kenneth and Ronald McNutt, sister Margery McNutt-Agin and numerous loving relatives and friends. Family will receive friends Sunday 12-5 pm at TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME WITH CREMATORY, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026. Funeral service will be held 5 pm Monday at Hilliard United Methodist Church, 5445 Scioto Darby Rd., Hilliard, OH 43026; with additional visitation 1 hour prior to the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio 4-H Foundation Endowment Fund, Franklin County, Hilliard United Methodist Church or Franklin County Agricultural Society. www.tiddfuneralservice.com
