Mary Jernigan Obituary

Mary Louise Lee Jernigan

Mary Louise Lee Jernigan, age 90, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at her home following a short illness.

A native of the Rocky Fork Community outside Smyrna, she was the daughter of the late Preston Eve and Callie Mae Coleman Lee.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty-four years, Ben Woodrow Jernigan; two children, Kenneth and Judith, who died shortly after birth; a brother, John Austin Lee of Smyrna; a sister, Martha Whitley of Gadsden, Alabama; and son-in-law, Bill Daly.

Survivors include her son, Dr. John Forrest Jernigan (Sandra) of Oak Ridge; daughters, Nettie Claire Monday (Earl) of Lascassas and Patricia Lee Daly of Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren, John Jernigan, Jr. (Denise) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Gina Greene Hill (Mark) of Avondale Estates, Georgia, Allison Jernigan (Josh Foster) of Denver, Colorado and Jon Daly (Jennifer) of Houston, Texas; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Herschel Lee of Nashville; a sister, Peggy White of Lucas, Kentucky; and her beloved Yorkie, Lucky.

A graduate of Smyrna High School, Louise worked at Chromolox and was the office manager at White Stag early on, but spent most of her life managing the rental property she and "Woody" owned and supporting his work as golf pro and manager of Murfreesboro Golf and Country Club.

She enjoyed the reputation of being an excellent cook and loved nothing better than hosting her family for fabulous holiday feasts. She was a talented seamstress, possessed a green thumb and a lifelong love of flowers, especially roses.

The Jernigan family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Respy Robinson, whose tender, loving care of our mother allowed her to remain in her home these past few years; Rebecca Walker, Capt. Jim Higgins, MPD and her Richland Place neighbors, Gene and Bella Higdon and Arthur Ford.

Graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 1 p.m. with Jimmy Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow with family and friends serving as Active Pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be held from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home, 820 South Church St., Murfreesboro, TN 37130; (615 893-2422. Please leave condolences at www.jenningsandayers.com

I wish I had the words to tell you how sorry I am about your mother's passing. I haven't seen her in so many years but I have a vivid picture of her in my mind from all the time spent at your house when we were in High School. Thank you for sharing her with all your friends.
