Richard Reeves Turney
Funeral services for Mr. Richard Reeves Turney, age 81 of Manchester, will be conducted Friday, August 2, 2013 at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Manchester, with Dr. John Todd and Reverend Ben Schultz officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, TN at 2 p.m. Friday. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Turney passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 in Manchester.
He was born March 12, 1932 in Nashville, TN, the son of the late James "Jim" Montgomery Turney and Annie Mai Martin Turney. Having grown up in Nashville, Reeves graduated from West End High School, and graduated Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began work as a design engineer at AEDC in 1955. He was a Section Supervisor in PWT, where he remained until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, where he served as an elder, Sunday school superintendent and trustee. Reeves and his wife, Donna were married 58 years and had attended the first grade together. Reeves will forever be remembered by all for his quick wit, genuine smile and embracing hugs.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Terry Diane Turney and a brother, Neil M. Turney.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Gore Turney of Manchester; two sons, Richard R. "Ricky" Turney , Jr. of Manchester, and Steve Turney and wife Angie of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren, Ashton and Ian Turney, both of Murfreesboro; and sister, Alice T. Kennedy of Elizabeth, CO.
In lieu of flowers, the family knows that Reeves' wishes would be to encourage each of you to give an embracing hug and gentle smile to those you love. In addition, contributions may be made to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, 2200 Children's Way 2510, Nashville, TN 37232.
