Christine White Obituary

Christine Lamson White, 86, of Washington, D.C., died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Brinton Woods Nursing Home in Washington, D.C.

Born May 4, 1926, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Lucia W. and James Andrew White.

She graduated from Wilson High School in Washington. She entered the University of North Carolina and graduated in 1947 with a major in English. At UNC, she acted in school plays, a precursor to her growing interest in the world of theatre. She enrolled in Catholic University, in Washington, D.C., in 1948 and pursued a Masters degree in speech and drama.

She left for New York and in the early 1950s appeared in roles made for TV including "Playhouse 90," "General Electric," and "Philco Playhouse."

After these successes, she left New York for Los Angeles, Calif., and appeared in more than 50 Hollywood movies and television shows during her 25 year acting career including "Magnum Force," "Vice Squad," "Man Crazy," "Ichabod and Me," "Father Knows Best," "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "Perry Mason," "The Untouchables," "The Twilight Zone," "The Fugitive," "The Rifleman," "Have Gun–Will Travel" and "Bonanza".

While living in Los Angeles, she became acquainted with several celebrities including James Dean, Loretta Young and June Havoc.

She returned to the D.C. area and helped care for her mother in her mother's later years.

She kept up many of her contacts in the acting profession while in Washington and pursued her interest in writing. She wrote, produced and distributed her own quarterly bulletin titled the "Rampart Papers."

Surviving are nephews and nieces James and Carol, Kenneth, Craig, Jeffrey and Minnie White; and great-nephew and great-niece Jeffrey Alexander White and Lillianna M. White.

She was predeceased by brother and sister-in-law Kenneth W. and Betty A. White.

Interment will be private.

hank you for your care, guidance, and friendship when I was a 17 year old run away on the streets of Los Angeles in 1976. Ill always remember your kindness, honesty, and righteous directness. You were a good friend who still inspires me today through your integrity and trust. I remember that you trusted me to cut your hair and said that you loved it, even though I know nothing about cutting hair. Im happy to have been able to call you my friend.

It was just in the last decade after seeing an episode of "The Rifleman" that I learned who Christine White was, a very pretty and talented actress that I must have seen many times on tv in my youth. I learned too that she was from DC and a graduate of Wilson High School. That interested me because, though younger than Christine, I too grew up in Washington, but went to Western High, Wilson's rival. I would have loved to have met her, but never did. It is always a special pleasure when I find her in a tv show or movie of the past. You touched me, Christine. Thank you. Rest in Peace.

Just saw Christine for the first time this evening in the Rifleman episode "The Visitor". I was impressed enough to research Christine on the internet and was happy to know that she was prolife and not afraid to proclaim it. I'm sure that Jesus welcomed her with open arms at her crossing over. Praise God for such a wonderful person!

Just saw her on MeTV last night. (Twilight Zone) She seemed like a sweet lady. Sad she's gone, but I think it's great that everyone can continue to enjoy her performances on television, DVD, and online. Thank you Christine!

My thoughts are with your family. I met Christine once or twice when my parents, Jack & Aili Behr, were close friends with Ken & Betty in the 60's when we were neighbors in Glen Cove, NY. We lost touch & I was hoping to reconnect with the family.
