Louis Tiner Obituary

Louis P. Tiner, 90, died Oct. 13, 2012, with his family by his side.

He was born May 10, 1922, in Haverstraw to parents Joseph and Alice Hansen Tiner.

Louis served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a sergeant in the Central- Burma -China campaign. He served as aircraft Armorer for the famous Flying Tigers.

Louis later worked as a police officer for the Village of Haverstraw Police Department for 29 years. He was past president of the Haverstraw Patrolmen's Benefit Association. He also was a member of the Haverstraw Elks, BPOE Lodge No. 877.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dolores Rist Tiner; two daughters, Patricia Knapp and her husband, Jerry, and Karen Algozzini and her husband, Phil; a grandson, Kyle Louis Knapp; a brother, William Tiner and his wife, Anne; two brothers-in-law, Martin Rist and his wife, Ann Marie, and Donald Rist and his wife, Andrea; two sisters-in-law, Jean Rist and Mary Ellen Tiner; and many nieces and nephews.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alice Tiner; his stepfather, Harold Hansen; two brothers, Edward and Joseph Tiner; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Tiner; a niece, Alice Rough; and two brothers-in-law, James Rist Jr. and Thomas Rist.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 17, at George M. Holt Funeral Home Inc. at 50 New Main St. in Haverstraw. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. at St Peter's Church on Broadway in Haverstraw. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Haverstraw with military honors.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, 255 Lafayette Avenue, Suffern, NY 10901.
