William Dunaway Obituary

May 26, 1930 - November 8, 2010.
William Arthur Dunaway, age 80 of Huntsville, passed away Monday after a brief illness.
A native of Murfreesboro, TN, Mr. Dunaway was born to Ethel Funk Dunaway and Samuel Winfred Dunaway. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He attended Middle Tennessee State College and was recruited to Huntsville to work for the Army Ballistic Missile Agency, which became NASA, as a mechanical designer in the Saturn, Space Lab, and space shuttle programs. Upon retirement from NASA, Mr. Dunaway joined Teledyne Brown Engineering, retiring in 1995.
Mr. Dunaway was also an accomplished architectural designer. He designed several medical office buildings in Huntsville, designed and supervised the restoration of the historic building at 115 North Side Square, and of historic homes on Randolph Avenue in Five Points.
An avid student of history, Mr. Dunaway was a self-taught authority on the American Revolution and the Civil War. Genealogy was a favorite hobby, and Mr. Dunaway contributed to genealogical and cemetery history and research. He was a member and former elder of First Presbyterian Church, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and had a great sense of humor and storytelling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Frances Dunaway Swain of Murfreesboro, TN.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Culbertson Dunaway; daughters, Sandra Dunaway Kagan and husband Gennady Kagan of Baldwin, GA, and Candice Rebecca Dunaway and husband Philip Andrew Williams of Huntsville; grandsons, Andrew Elliott Williams and wife Rachel Powell Williams of Huntsville, and Lee Steele Williams of Huntsville; granddaughter, Ilona Fountain and husband Phillip; great-granddaughters, Emma Ramsey Williams of Huntsville, and Jessica Fountain and Miranda Fountain of Pembroke, GA.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Mark Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

Another loss from my youth,I remember BILL an his father an mother with fond memerys.Bill an my brother were class mates at CHS.Now both BILL an my brother are gone.
