Mildred Malone Covington Rees

Mildred Malone Covington Rees, age 96, of Franklin, died December 21, 2012 at Williamson Medical Center.

Mrs. Rees was born December 14, 1916 in Murfreesboro, and was the daughter of the late Etta Gamewell Malone and Walter Graves Malone. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband and father of her children, long-time Franklin Attorney Mabry Covington, Jr.; sisters, Edwena Malone Gardner and Reba Malone Jackson; her late husband, Ernest Rees, Jr. of Fayetteville, TN.

Mrs. Rees is survived by two dear daughters, Caroline Covington McDonald and her husband James of Fairfax, VA, Betty Lee Covington Panter and her husband Jason of Franklin; three precious grandchildren, William Mabry McDonald and his wife Megan of San Francisco, CA, Elizabeth Bowden McDonald of Fairfax, VA and Jon Mabry Panter of Franklin.

Mrs. Rees was a true southern lady and a beautiful Christian. She attended Tennessee College for Women in Murfreesboro, and was a lifelong, faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, College Grove and Franklin. Mrs. Rees was an instructor at the first Arthur Murray Studio in the State of Tennessee. She was a Red Cross Volunteer during World War II, and an officer in the World War II Auxiliary. She was co-organizer of the first Girl Scout Troops in Murfreesboro and College Grove. She served on the board of the Carter House Association, was a charter member of the John Nolan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and charter member of the Carnton Association and the Carnton County Club. She was a member of the Ladies Hermitage Association, was a charter member of the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County, and was sorority mother of Theta Omega Sorority in Nashville.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Franklin. Rev. Lynn Hill will officiate. Burial in the Triune Cemetery at Triune United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at First United Methodist Church in Franklin.

Active Pallbearers will be William McDonald, Jeff Jackson, Jay Jackson, Jimmy Bishop, David Tuma and Bob Tuma. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marte Benner Burrow, Nancy Conway, Harry Lee Billington, Ann Herbert Floyd, Marie Jordan, Eleanor Bellenfant, Willi Mae Jordan, Betty Hughes, Georgia Covington, Don Young, Earl Nichols, Dr. Tom Covington, Dr. Christian Friesinger, Dr. Daniel Weikert, Dr. David Huesinkveld and Dr. Robert Hollister.
