Betty June Carter Miller

Betty June Carter Miller, age 84, joined family in Christ on January 21, 2013 following a brief illness.

Mrs. Miller was born on November 13, 1928 in Coldwater, TN near Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Franklin Carter, Jr. of Coldwater, TN and her husband of nearly 59 years, Ira Bradford Miller, Sr. of Murfreesboro, TN and beloved siblings, Geraldine Carter (Raymond) Pitts, William Robert (Jane) Carter, Lewis Franklin (survived by Margaret) Carter and James Boyd (Becky) Carter.

Mrs. Miller is survived by sons, Ira Bradford "Buddy" Miller, Jr. (Ann) and Michael L. Miller (Nancy) of Murfreesboro; daughters, Cindy Miller Smith (Steve) of Brownsville, TN and Molly Miller Alspaugh (Eric) of Hermitage, TN; grandchildren, Leslie J. Miller, Bradford A. Miller (Meagan), Katherine L. Miller, Charles M. Miller, Mary Elizabeth Miller of Murfreesboro, TN, Richard Elam Smith of Brownsville, TN and Ian W. Alspaugh of Hermitage, TN, great-grandchildren, Caroline and Clayton Miller of Murfreesboro, TN.

Mrs. Miller grew up surrounded by loving family and friends in Coldwater, TN, and cherished countless memories of those early times. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State College in 1951 with a B.S. in Social Science, and served as Secretary of her class for three years. She was elected to Who's Who in American Colleges her Senior Year. She served briefly as a social worker in Lincoln County before beginning her lifelong union with Mr. Miller in 1951. She was a devoted wife and enjoyed supporting Mr. Miller's work with the Tennessee Road Builders' Association from 1982 through 1997. She was a loving, proud mother, grandmother and aunt. She felt fortunate to share support and care with a host of wonderful cousins, friends and church family. She filled many roles as a member of First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, TN, and recalled with joy her years co-teaching Kindergarten Sunday School with Mr. Miller.

Active Pallbearers will be Edward E. Miller III, William C. Miller, Jr., David C. Miller, Alexander F. Carter III, William R. Carter, Jr., James B. Carter Jr., David R. Carter, Brent D. Carter, William Christopher Carter.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church on Thompson Lane. Service will be held on Thursday at 12 p.m., with Rev. Michael O'Bannon officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with family and friends serving as Pallbearers.
