Nelly Blankenship Obituary
Nelly (Nell) McClure Blankenship, age 73, passed away June 5, 2015 at her residence. She was a native of Benton, TN, Polk County, and a long-time resident of Rutherford County. Nell was a very active member in the Rutherford County Historical Society, and she served on the Linebaugh Library board and the Stones River Regional Library board. Nelly was a retired teacher of thirty five years and was an active member of the Retired Teachers Association. She took great pride in her involvement of the Summer Olympic games in 1996 white water rafting events in Polk County. Nell was a long-time active member of Lascassas Methodist Church.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents, J.L. and Linda Paige McClure; husband of forty seven years, Steve Blankenship; and daughter, Helen Blankenship.
She is survived by her son, Donald (Kathryn) Blankenship; brother, Harold McClure; and sisters, Nancy McClure Knight, and Sue (Charles)Tibbets.
Arrangements are under the direction of Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home, 820 South Church St., Murfreesboro, TN 37130. 615-893-2422.
A private graveside service was held on Sunday, June 14. Memorials may be made in Nell's honor to the Rutherford County Historical Society, 435 Rice St, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. Please leave online condolences at www.jenningsandayers.com.
