Howard E. Perry, of Dover, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at home. He was 85.
Mr. Perry was born Feb. 28, 1933 in Charlotte, N.C. to the late Ralph Perry Sr. and Mary McCall Perry.
He served in the United States Air Force for 14 years during the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1974 he joined the National Guard part-time and, in 1976, he became full-time in the Hershey, Pa. area, and was active duty during Desert Shield and Storm, having a total of 33 years of service. He loved traveling and organizing trips for others and had become a travel agent before becoming full time in the National Guard. Mr. Perry was a devout Presbyterian his whole life and helped start and build several churches in the Harrisburg area.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph Perry Jr., Ernest, W. Thomas and Robert Perry.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anne Palat Perry of Dover; daughter, Catherine Hoover (David) of Dover; son, David Perry (Christine) of Casa Grande, Ariz.; brother, Charles Ray Perry (Lucy Ricardo); sister, Martha Perry all of Callaway, Va.; grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca, Kaylene, Matthew, Robert, Sarah, Christopher and Joshua.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be held 10a.m. Monday, May 14, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to www.parkinsons.org, American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
