LAWRENCE — Maria J. Geraldes, 75, of Lawrence, formerly of Arizona, died Friday, April 11, 2008 at her brother's home in Lawrence.
Maria was born and educated in St. Jorge, Azores, Portugal. She moved to Lawrence in 1973 and had worked as a machine operator at Jo-Gal, Lawrence Maid and Cardinal Shoe Companies in Lawrence. While living here Maria was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and later Corpus Christi Parish in Lawrence.
She joined her sister and other family members in Arizona in 1984 and worked as seamstress at the family's bridal and entertainment dress company. She enjoyed crochet, knitting, and hooking hand made rugs. Mostly Maria loved being with her family.
Maria is survived by her son, Antonio Geraldes of Texas; one daughter, Rosa G. Reynolds of Arizona; one grandson, Thomas Reynolds of Arizona; brothers, Manuel S. Madruga Jr. and his wife Silvina (Santos) Madruga of Lawrence, Alberto Madruga and his wife Durvalina of Arizona and Armando Madruga and his wife Ana of Arizona; sisters, Carmina, wife of Antonio Brum of Arizona, Idalina Lino of Arizona, Herondina, wife Gilbert Garcia of Arizona and Maria Albertina, wife of Bill Harvey of Kingston, N.H.; several nieces and nephews. Maria was predeceased by a grandson, Amilkar Silva and an infant granddaughter.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish in Lawrence. Burial will be St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
