Linda Smallwood Obituary

LINDA RENE SMALLWOOD 51, met her heavenly father on October 30, 2004, after sustaining injuries from a tragic car accident on October 28, 2004. She was born to John and Fran Smallwood in Riverside, CA and grew up alongside her brother, Craig, in an insulated military environment. She graduated form high school in Wiesbaden, Germany. She received her BA in political science form Cal State Hayward and became a member of Delta Sigma Theta in 1973. She earned her MBA from John F. Kennedy University in 1998. She bore one child from her marriage to Bert Strane in 1975. Dax is a graduating senior at Chico State University During her short lifetime, Linda, worked as a consultant and trainer in the high tech industry. Most recently her emphasis was in computer literacy. During the past 2 years, her energies were focused on instructing inmates at the local county and regional jails. In addition, she was teaching adult education in the evenings for the Alameda Unified School District. She continued to further her own education by taking classes at Cal State Hayward on the weekends for the past 3 months. Linda left an indelible love-mark on her 6 year old granddaughter, Ebony. Her mother, Fran Smallwood, predeceased her earlier this year. Her father and son celebrated Linda's life by extending her gift of giving through organ donation. A memorial celebrating Linda's life will be held at Allen Temple Baptist Church, 8501 International Blvd., Oakland on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to an educational trust for 6 year old Ebony. Checks can be addressed to John Smallwood and mailed to 510 Elysian Fields Drive, Oakland, CA 94605. Chapel of the Chimes 510-654-0123 "Service of Marked Distinction" www.chapelofthechimes.com

With deepest sympathy to Linda's family from her Alameda Adult School friends and colleagues. We miss Linda's wonderful academic contribution to our school, her incredible smile, and her indomitable spirit. May the memory of the way she lived life to the fullest sustain you in your loss.

Even though it has been years since we have crossed one another's paths, the sting of Linda's homegoing grieves my heart. But when I think of those times WE shared those years ago -- so young single and free, (and even a little mischevious at times)... I smile. Linda Rene was one of my 1st examples of the joy a true friend can bring to your life. She will be missed. To John, Dax and Ebony remember: "God's grace is sufficient for you" 1Cor. 12-9

What I remember the most about Linda, was her gorgeous smile, her giving spirit, and her wonderful Christmas cookies.
