Whats to say when a person as fun, energetic, and loved is so quickly stolen from us. It's always hard to understand why God takes one of our loved ones but he always has a plan. I can recall the day of the funeral, my brother and I were riding and it was raining. I can remember as a child hearing the older people say when it rains on the day a funeral is held that person is going to heaven. Mac Dre left a long history of music for his fans to keep his memory alive. I just hope that when my time is called I have the same love that Mac Dre had because you have to earn that. Andre Hicks aka. Mac Dre, what else can you say but he was one of the bay area's finest. A legend and a voice that will never be forgotten. From " California Livin'" to " Tha Thizzle Dance" and all that's in between. He was truly a mastermind when it came to the rap game. He was a big influence to the nation as well as his home turf. He was a inspiration, a rap icon, especially to those growing up in the Crest. I didn't know Dre personally, but I seen him around and have been listening to his music since I can remember. May God bless and be with his family at this time of need. And we all know you teachin them the "Thizzle Dance" up there! You will always be a legend in my books. In Dre’s short time here he was blessed with the task of delivering the message for the underprivileged yet humble youth of the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s to the otherwise naïve. Dre used his poetic talents and passion for an influential art to inform of our highs, our lows, our good times and our bad….for this, I am grateful.
In all of his art, Dre emphasized on the reality of “OUR” world and how we coped with it….for this, our peers are grateful.
Through his music, Dre communicated his feelings and the feelings of others that were not always treated justly by the Authorities…..for this, the community is grateful.
Dre has departed this life, but his works have left us with the ability to recognize that we can come from a not-so-perfect place and still become heroes in our own time….for this, the world is grateful!

My deepest sympathy and remorse goes out to the immediate family, close friends, fans throughtout Vallejo, and host of cities affected and greiving the loss of another rap icon Andre Hicks "Mac Dre". I too was raised in the north side of Vallejo (Country Club Crest) where Dre's voice came alive giving his peers confidence in our community, as well as ourselves. Through dedication, consistence, loyalty and desire YOU can do anything, know matter where you were from, just as long as you knew where YOU want to be. Seeing and hearing Dre's testimony of life gave alot of young people the motivation to better themselves no matter there background, you can still have a voice and be someone. I have moved on from Vallejo now, as memories past through my mind I will alway reflect my childhood with his all time hit "California Livin" Dre was a musical genious who represented Valleo in a REAL way. Now as family, friends, and loyal fans, we MUST keep his voice ALIVE through song, though he consumes us in spirit his legacy MUST live on. Andre (Mac Dre) Hicks will be missed by so many, and with losing "Dre" I feel the voice who spoke for many youths and young adults from Valleo has been muted, and hip hop as we know, will never be the same

I remember when Dre had just came from the studio after making "California Living." Gene and I were sitting on the corner of Sawyer and he stopped and said, "hey, yal listen to this!"
