Lynn Boliek Obituary

DR. LYNN E. BOLIEK 192-2003 Man of God Lynn Boliek, a native of California, died of Cancer at the age of 74 in San Diego, CA on August 4, 2003. He graduated from the Univ. of CA in Berkeley and Princeton Theological Seminary. He completed doctoral studies under the Dutch theologian, G.C. Berkouwer, and the philosopher Dooyeweerd at the Free University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He served three years in Beirut, Lebanon, under the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. He pastored Presbyterian churches in San Diego (Clairemont Mesa) CA, and Burlingame, CA before retiring as Pastor Emeritus after eighteen years of service at Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian church of Chico, CA. An expert in Reformed Theology and an international authority on Blaise Pascal, Dr. Boliek taught classes in Philosophy and Apologetics at Lone Mountain College, Stanford University, and was an adjunct Professor at Fuller Theological Seminary. In his retirement he was a teacher in the Adult Education program of LaJolla Presbyterian Church in San Diego. He was highly respected for his clear presentation of the gospel, his scholarship, how he would quote scripture in English while reading it in the original Greek, and for his self-effacing sense of humor. He was married to his wife Sondra for 46 years. She survives him with his son Martin, his daughter, Babette and their families, including two granddaughters. They ask that he be remembered, in lieu of flowers, by a contribution to the Lynn Boliek Seminary Scholarship Fund, c/o Bidwell Presbyterian Church, 208 W. 1st St. Chico, CA 95928. Memorial services will be held Sunday, Aug. 10 at La Jolla Presbyterian church, and on the following week at Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian Church.
